In loving memory of my dear son, Lance-Corporal John W. Barnes, 16963, East Lancashire Regiment, killed in action at the Dardanelles August 9th 1915, aged 24 years.
"Sleep on, dear son, in a soldier's grave,
A grave I may never see;
But the unknowing grave is the bitterest blow,
None but an aching heart doth know."
