Official notification has been received at Haslingden that Private William Banks of the Machine Gun Section Connaught Rangers has died two days after being gassed whilst in action. Private Banks was 21 years of age. He was formerly a piecer at Rothwells Mill Stonefold. He enlisted eighteen months ago and went out with his regiment over six months ago. His father is dead and his mother resides at Carr Hall St. Haslingden. Mr Banks of the Haslingden Labour Exchange is a brother of the deceased. The family have received a letter sympathetic letter from Private Banks lieutenant who said he knew of no cleaner or smarter soldier than deceased. 



HASLINGDEN SOLDIER GASSED - DEATH RESULTING IN TWO DAYS

Private J. Wilfred Banks of Carr Hall Street, Haslingden, whose death it will be remembered was reported in last week's "Guardian." Private Banks was gassed in France on April 28th, during an attack, and died two days later.
