Newspaper Report:

Information has been received of the death of Private Thomas Lyons (23), son of Mr. Patrick Lyons, of Church Lane, Haslingden.  The deceased enlisted in the East Lancashires; went out three months afterwards, and had been recorded as missing for twelve months.  He is now reported to have been killed in action.  He was a spinner and was also a well known wrestler, in which pastime he was the winner of a cup.  He enlisted along with two other men of the same Christian name and surname, and in order that there might not be confusion of names it was arranged that the deceased should enlist as Thomas Edward Lyons.  Both of the other men are killed.  The deceased was associated with St. Mary's R.C. Church.
