HASLINGDEN SOLDIER WITH NINE OF A FAMILY - WIFE LEARNS HE HAS FALLEN
Private A. Hitchen, East Lancashire Regiment, of 2, Jane Street, Carrs, Haslingden, and who was reported missing, is now officially certified as having been killed in action. He leaves a wife and nine children.
He was reported missing on October 18th 1916, and is presumed to have been killed on that date. Thirty six years old, he worked as a weaver at Flash Mill, Grane Road, Haslingden, attended Haslingden Parish Church, and joined up on January 16th 1916. His eldest child is 13 years old.
