HASLINGDEN SOLDIERS KILLED AND MISSING.

Private Thomas Grady (32), son of Mr and Mrs. John Grady, 49 Rakefoot, and of the East Lancashires, was killed in action on November 3rd.  He enlisted in August, 1914, and had been in France 14 months.  He was formerly employed in the card room at Duckworth Clough Mill, Haslingden, and was connected with St. Mary's R.C. Church. Only a week before his death his parents received from him a letter in which he said he had killed a few Germans to avenge his brother Jim, and he intended to kill a few more.  The brother James who was22, was in the Kings Liverpool Regiment. He died in hospital in Manchester from wounds received in action a fortnight prevously, and was accorded a military funeral at Haslingden.
