Newspaper Report:
Official news has been received that Private Fred Smith, of 4, South Street, Syke Side, Haslingden, has been killed in action in France on July 5th last. The deceased, who was only nineteen years of age, enlisted in the East Lancashire Regiment and had been out in France five weeks.
