Mrs. Cartin, of 11, Hartley Street, Haslingden, has received official information that her husband, Private Joseph Cartin, Lancashire Fusiliers, who was posted missing on November 23rd, 1916, is presumed to have fallen on that date.
Aged 34, he was a son of the late ex Alderman Denis Cartin, of Haslingden, and he served his apprenticeship to cabinet making in the shop of Mr. J.J. Hamer.
Joining up in June, 1916, he went to the front on September 26th, 1916.
He is survived by his wife and a three year old son.
A member of St. Mary's Church, his name is on the roll of honour there, and he was a popular member of the Catholic Club billiard team.
