Private Alfred Wroe, whose wife and widowed mother reside in Back Carr Mill Street, Haslingden was killed in action in France on September 8th.  He was 23 years of age, and great sympathy is felt with his wife and young child (a girl of three years) and his mother.  He was a native of Rawtenstall, and before coming to Haslingden was employed at the Print Works, Loveclough.  His wife is a native of Stacksteads, and is at present employed in a Haslingden Mill.  Since coming to Haslingden he worked at Stonefold Mill, and prior to his marriage resided with his mother at Hud Hey.  He enlised in the East lancashires, but was more recently transferred to the Loyal North Lancashires.  He was a member of the Church of England, and a memorial service is to be held on Sunday at the Haslingden Parish Church.
